There are three places to assist on how to expedite a passport application. To accelerate or decrease the processing time will cost more than the cost for standard processing. Also, it requires more documents to provide proof of the urgency to get a passport in a rush. The Necessary Documents for How to Expedite
The application form will vary according to the applicant status. That is, a first-time applicant (adult or minor) will use Form DS-11, an applicant with an expired passport, less than fifteen years old, must use Form DS-82, and one with that lost his or her passport must use Form DS-64. Make you complete the right form before proceeding.
The supporting documents will consist of proof of citizenship, identity, and passport size photo. Some documents can be used as proof of citizenship, but only one is necessary. The documents are a birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad Certificate, Naturalization Certificate, Certificate of Citizenship, and your expired passport.
Proof of identity can be a driver’s license, State Issued ID, or Non-Driver’s ID. There is an additional supplemental identification that can be used as well.
Passport size photo has some specifications for it to be valid. For example, it must be 2 x 2 in size, in color, full face front view with a plain white background, not hats or glasses must be worn, and taken within the past 6-months.
Where to Expedite a Passport Application
The Post Office
There are different locations to expedite an application. A post office is the first many applicants go to their documents process and get a passport in 2 to 3 weeks. At the post office, you have the convenience of submitting all the necessary documents and pay the fees. An incomplete application will result in a delay of the process.
The second place that provides a faster turnaround of getting a passport is a private expeditor. With an expeditor, you have the choice of getting your document from 1 to 14 days. The sooner to get it, the more it will cost. To obtain approval, you must provide additional documents such as two letters of authorization, proof of travel abroad, and emergency or job letter if applicable. You can hire an expeditor online or visit a local office if one is available.
Regional Passport Agency
A regional passport agency offers the same service as a private expeditor. However, the agency requires you to submit the documents in person at the office. Before you go to the office, you must have an appointment. To get one, call the National Passport Information Center where you will get a date and time to submit your documents. At the time of your visit, bring only the necessary documents since you are going to a Federal Building with plenty of security.
To expedite your application, start off by getting and completing the correct form, gather the supporting documents, and the fees. So, when you visit the acceptance facility and submit your application, you will not have any delay to stop you from taking your trip. Once you fulfill the requirements, you will have a new passport and ready to travel.
